| Liberal Catholics Jesus is a Liberal welcomes Liberal Catholics! Liberal Catholics come from all countries, all walks of life and all Catholic sects, churches and beliefs. One of the most interesting insights that comes from travelling internationally - be it South America, Europe, North America, Africa, Australia or Asia, is that the predominant character of the global Catholic culture is a Liberal one. We welcome all Liberal Catholics - whether members of the official Liberal Catholic Church or now - to share with us your thoughts, your beliefs, and your hopes. The very term Catholic means universal, but the word has also come to stand for the outlook and practice of the historical church as distinct from that of the later sects - we seek to distinguish and support liberal Catholics. While Liberal Catholics are allied with historical tradition, wet combine the Catholic form of worship — its stately ritual, its deep mysticism, and its abiding witness to the reality of sacramental grace — with the widest measure of intellectual liberty and respect for the individual conscience and choice. John F. Kennedy and John Kerry are classic - though not atypical - Liberal Catholics. We Liberal Catholics believe that the vitality of a church and a community gains in proportion as our members increasingly draw their central inspiration from an intense faith in the LIVING CHRIST in conjunction with life experience in the real world, personal growth and spiritual maturity. We believe that central to our liberal Catholic faith is Christian worship - of whatever kind, so long as it be earnest, genuine and true. We regard the Holy scriptures, the Creeds, and the Traditions of the Church as the means by which the teachings of Christ may be handed down to His followers. Besides perpetuating these sacramental rites, Christ’s immediate followers handed down in His Church a body of doctrine and certain principles of ethics. Some of this original teaching of Christ has been lost, changed, interpreted and some of it has been obscured by the various "accretions" of the ages. What remains is a priceless heritage to be guarded with loving care and reverence. This is why we Liberal Catholics regard the fundamental teachings of Christ - as portrayed in His Sermon on the Mount - as the primary, true, sufficient and compelling basis of all right understanding and right conduct. We affirm a liberal, compassionate, forgiving, loving Jesus. |
